Privacy policy: zbyld scan

Last updated: 17 October 2026

zbyld scan ("the app") is made by zbyld. We built it so that your documents stay yours. This policy explains exactly what the app does with information.

The short version

Information that stays on your device

Scans

When you scan a document, the pages are turned into a PDF and saved on your phone in the Documents/zbyld-scan folder using Android's standard storage (MediaStore). We do not upload them anywhere.

PDFs you open

PDFs you open in the reader are read in place and are not copied or uploaded. The app only remembers the file's name, size and your reading position (page and view mode) in a small database on your phone, so it can show your Recents and Favourites. Removing a file from the list or uninstalling the app deletes this.

Passwords

If a PDF is password-protected, the app asks for the password. It is used to open the file and is never stored.

Permissions

The app does not request broad storage access. Pictures you add from your gallery are chosen inside the scanner, scans are saved through MediaStore, and PDFs are opened through the system file picker or "Open with".

Crash diagnostics (the one exception)

The app uses Firebase Crashlytics, a service from Google, to receive reports when the app crashes. A report contains technical information about the crash, such as the error, the app version, and basic device details like model and Android version. It also includes an installation identifier used to group crashes from the same install. It never includes your documents, scans or their contents. We use it only to find and fix bugs, not for analytics, advertising or personalisation. Reports are sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Google processes this data under its own Firebase privacy information.

Document scanning (Google ML Kit)

zbyld scan uses Google's ML Kit document scanner, which is delivered through Google Play services. It is Google's software, not ours, and zbyld scan does not control it. How it handles data is described in Google's ML Kit data disclosure.

Sharing

The app only shares a file when you tap Share and pick where it goes using the Android share sheet. That transfer is your choice, and the receiving app's own policy applies after that. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers or data brokers.

Third parties

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising or marketing. The third-party services involved are Google Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports) and Google ML Kit (document scanning).

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not ask for any personal information. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Your choices and deleting data

Your scans and reading history are on your device, so you control them: delete scans in the app or in your Documents folder. Uninstalling the app removes its local list, but scans saved in Documents/zbyld-scan are normal files and remain until you delete them. Crash reports are not linked to your name or account, so we generally can't identify them as yours. To ask about them, contact us and include any details you have.

We never sell your data

Any information stored by the app will never be sold to, or shared for the benefit of, other parties.

Changes to this policy

If the app's data practices change, we'll update this page and the date above before the change ships.
